How to Take Way Better Product Photos for your Business Business / Photography

If you run an online business then you will know how hard it can be to stand out from the crowd. After all, you have thousands of companies to compete with and there is a high chance that they are selling a very similar product to you as well. One way for you to get the edge would be for you to take spectacular product photos. When you do this, your products will look better to your customers and you may even find that your sales increase by a significant amount.

Invest in a Good Camera

The first thing that you need to do is invest in a great camera. You really can’t go wrong with a DSLR model. When you have settled on the brand you want, you then need to think about video capabilities. Sometimes customers like to see a product from multiple angles and video can be a great way for you to offer this. You may be tempted to invest in a camera that has 4K capabilities, but this isn’t always the best idea. After all, most computer displays cannot go up to this resolution and neither can smartphones. A 4K image will look better when compared to one at a lower resolution, but it isn’t necessarily required in order for you to take good photographs. Read more here for ideas.

Choose your Lighting

You will need to have some good lights if you want your photos to stand out on the internet. When choosing your light, it’s important that you opt for a model that is adjustable. This is especially the case if you have products that are made out of plastic because certain angles can produce glare. It’s also important to note that some lights are warmer than others. For example, some lights produce a yellow glow whereas others produce more of a cool white. The lights you choose will depend on the products that you are trying to sell. If you aren’t sure which one to opt for, then experiment and look at the photos that your competition have taken. This is the best way for you to work out what kind of photos you need to take in order to get the edge.

Setup

If you are photographing products for your eCommerce store then you need to have a consistent background. This way your customers can get an idea of the colour, style and design. If you have different backgrounds for different products then this can be confusing, so do keep this in mind. When choosing your background, white is always the best choice. White reflects light, so it makes your image look brighter and it also provides a much more accurate representation of what you are trying to sell. If you want to create your own DIY setup then consider hanging up some white pieces of paper. When you do this, you can then take it down at any time and you can also move it around depending on the product you are trying to photograph.
