Don’t Let Your Commute Cost You More Than Necessary Business

It would be ideal if the money we made from our jobs could go straight towards things that we enjoy and want to have. Alas, a significant portion has to go back into our work, in the form of coffee, takeout lunches, and the biggest one, getting to and from the office. Unless you’re lucky enough to work for a company that pays for your travel, you’ll be looking at your annual commuting costs and not be all that pleased at what you see. There is some hope, however. By incorporating the tips below into your routine, you’ll be able to reduce the amount you spend on getting to and from work considerably.

Find a Friend

Do you want to half your commuting costs, instantly? Then find a buddy at your work who lives near you. We know, we know – sometimes it’s nice to enjoy the drive to and from work on your own, in silence, as you mentally prepare yourself for the office or the home. But is this small amount of pleasure really worth the cost? Take a look at the prices of getting to and from work, and cut it in half. If that’s not enough to convince you, then maybe get a new job, because you clearly don’t like your coworkers!

Public Transport Options

If you work in a city, then it’s worthwhile looking at the public transport options to and from your work. Again, it would be nice to drive straight to a spot outside your office, but if it’s a luxury that can ill-afford, then it’s time to find a better solution. You don’t necessarily need to leave the car at home entirely; you can drive some of the distance, and then take a train or bus the rest of the way. This will also help you save on parking costs, as they’re much cheaper away from downtown.

Handling Issues

Some basic car maintenance could save you money, too. You’ll be driving a lot of miles each week, and the more miles we cover, the greater the chance that we’re going to break down. Stay on top of your car’s maintenance, and you’ll be able to avoid expensive callouts and repairs. You should also keep in mind that more car accidents happen during rush hour, and you’re more likely to be involved in an incident. If you are, then get help at the Stinson Law Group, and make sure the accident doesn’t hurt you financially. Sometimes it’s not the small commuting costs that get us, but one big hospital or car repair bill.

Sunny Days

We’ve gotten pretty used to just driving straight from our home to the office. But this can lead to big gas and parking bills. If it’s a sunny spring or summer’s day, why not make the most of the fine weather, and cycle or walk to work. If you live far away, you can just travel some of the distance, and then finish the rest on foot or bicycle.
