Decorating Your Office – Have You Considered It? Business / Design

It’s often the case that businesses are much more focused on function over form. This is, to a certain extent, true. For example, let’s take one of the hallmarks of daily office operation – the office email. This must be kept brief, functional, and to-the-point. Any more flowery language than necessary is a waste of time, when time is of the essence. An office space must be considered by practicality first and decoration later, as function always precedes form if you hope to run an effective ‘whatever’ in your own firm.

However, it might be that this deep focus on function can leave you entirely leaving out the form it might take afterwards. Of course, this might not be the case when it comes to matters such as your branding, marketing, or product packaging, but in other areas it might be. With that in mind, it can be truly best to consider how bettering yourself as a business and enterprise’s cohesive packaging could benefit the entire process as a whole.

For that, let us consider how you might decorate your office, as this is often that which even creatives leave last:

Flooring

It sounds silly and almost obvious, but you’d be surprised just how important great flooring is when furnishing your office. Tile carpet is often the best course of action, but also ensure that it’s a relatively light color, because the tone profile will tie together the room and help it feel open or spacious, or potentially oppressive. Different colors alternating together can also leave a sense of confusion when perceiving the room, and it’s a subtle effect. This might only be acceptable should the carpet tiles remain extremely light, and the color differentiation is minimal. Remember, you want flooring that is going to last, be easy to clean, show debris to the point where it can be easily identified, and allow office chairs to wheel across it with ease.

This all might seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised how cheap deal on flooring, especially when attempting to cover many square meters of space, can look extremely attractive to business leaders outfitting an office. For that reason, sometimes price can be chosen over utility. Remember, if you choose your flooring well, it can last for decades, so it’s worth investing in, or replacing with care.

Greenery

Offices can often be quite drab places. File folders, stationery, desks, computer monitors, they can all leave simple colors of greys, blacks, whites and light browns. Not terrible, but sometimes, a little nature can bring a little life back into the office. Potted plants can be knocked over with soil, and so hanging wall gardens have been used in modern trendy offices with effectiveness, or shelf plants can also work brilliantly. No matter how you choose to implement it, greenery can serve as a primitive form of air filter, and also absorb negative ions that are in the air, allowing the room to feel more fresh, relaxing, and conducive to work.

Entrance Hall

Consider what the early impression is for someone walking into your firm, even a staff member day after day. Allow the corridors and staff environments offer a celebration of the office, through the use of trophy cabinets for awards, repeating lightweight silicone edged graphic displays to brand your offices tastefully and in a means that is easily switchable over the months, be sure that locations within your building are signposted effectively. It’s not hard to see how each of these implements can help the lived experience of your building in their own respect.

Windows

Ideally, staff should be afforded a view outside, so that the office doesn’t feel constricting. This is where blinds that raise can be superior to leaving them down all the time, and ensuring that the entrance of light is best helped by the placement of your storage cabinets elsewhere might allow a feeling of freshness and vitality. This can also help you achieve a better sense of ventilation during the hot summers where heat waves are sure to come in.

Individual Flair

It can also be extremely worthwhile to allow staff to decorate their desk spaces as they can, provided it doesn’t constitute a fire hazard or seem overly cluttered. This can allow staff a little personal freedom, such as showing pictures of their families or placing down a framed picture of a peaceful scene. This way, your staff tastefully decorate parts of the office for you.

With all this in mind, you’re sure to decorate your office in the best manner possible.
