Why Video Should Be Your Next Big Focus Digital Marketing / Marketing

According to a study from Hubspot, 78% of people watch online videos every week, and 55% view online videos every day, and by 2020, online videos will make up more than 80% of all consumer internet traffic. These stats are pretty impressive, right? And if you’re not on board with video yet for your business then now is the time you really need to start.

Video is the future and while you might have been busy making sure you’re on the first page of Google, you might have missed the fact that YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world. People use Youtube a lot for online tutorials or educational style videos as one of the biggest things that people search is “how-to”, so if this is something you can capitalise on in our business then you really should be getting a piece of the action.

Adding video to your website will also increase your search rankings on Google, Bing, and Yahoo and will also make it fifty times more likely to appear on the first page. 40% of consumers also say that seeing a video increases the chance that they will purchase a product on their mobile, where as website visitors are 64% more likely to make a purchase after watching a video.

It’s not just ‘how-to’s’ either, according to Plexus IT, live broadcast announcements are also something you should be making the most of. Whether it’s on Twitter or Facebook, posting live broadcast updates about an upcoming product or service will make your announcement far more interesting and far more personal than a press release or faceless status update.

Pre-recorded videos limit how you can address the “fine print” questions from customers, so you should think of live broadcasts as a chance to hold your own personal press briefing and address questions after your scripted announcement.

Including video on your social media will also mean that your company will show up on more people’s social feeds because today, consumers are spending even more time consuming digital video than they are spending on social media.  According to eMarketer, four times as many consumers would rather watch a video about a product than read about it as it provides both audio and visual stimulation and means that they are more engaged with your brand. However, it is important to know that only 12% of people who view videos on Instagram turn the sound on, and 85% of video on Facebook is viewed without sound – so it’s advisable to get an excellent captioning service for those who don’t want to listen.

If you want your customers or potential customers to get the message then video is the way to go, people retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video, whereas they only retain 10% when they reading it in text.

While getting in a video production company will produce some great work, you could start yourself with your phone and video editing apps and see how you get on before you go spending lots of cash.
